Filler

In the modern era, jawline fillers have become an increasingly popular procedure amongst both men and women. The goal of this type of treatment is to give the impression of an accentuated, more defined jaw. When a filler is applied to the jawline area, it can help to tighten the skin and, in so doing, enhance both the jowl and chin regions. The result of this is a stronger, sharper jawline with no extra/sagging skin.

There are many procedures that are employed to achieve the desired chiselled jaw shape, but these are predominantly surgical, with some involving actually shaving the bone. However, these procedures are commonly time consuming, costly and also painful, which is why fillers are usually opted for to avoid such drawbacks. One of the best aspects of dermal fillers is that they are dissolvable if the desired effect isn’t achieved and, although you may experience a small amount of discomfort following the treatment such as swelling and redness, this typically reduces quickly and there is very little downtime.

WHAT FILLERS ARE USED?

Juvéderm Volux
Unlike Juvéderm Volite, which is a more lightweight formula used primarily for lips, Volux has now overtaken its predecessor Voluma (which was Juvéderm’s most dense formula, often used to sculpt the cheek area). Formulated specifically to target the lower regions of the face, Volux is Juvéderm’s most recent addition to their ever-growing filler range which is designed to treat facial volume loss, add contours (to the jawline and the chin) and thus naturally sculpt the lower portion of the face. Typically, Juvéderm’s 9-point Shape™ method is utilized for men, with a 7-point Shape™ used for women, both of which methods usually combine certain Juvéderm products to ensure that the desired effect is achieved.
Restylane Defyne and Lyft
Both Restylane Defyne and Restylane Lyft were invented with the purpose of restoring structure and volume to the jawline, chin and nose areas as well as softening facial folds and wrinkles. Used to provide natural-looking enhancement to the face, these two Restylane fillers can be utilized to sharpen the jawline. Restylane Lyft is the firmest filler in the range, which is why it’s ideal for shaping and lifting the cheeks, chin and jawline. Restylane Defyne, on the other hand, is slightly more pliable in nature and, as such, is especially suited to those with a finer tissue structure.
RADIESSE
RADIESSE works by triggering collagen production in the body, which is one of its many benefits when used to treat the jawline. After being administered, RADIESSE is designed to give natural enhancement to the face, helping to contour and shape it to provide a more youthful appearance to the lower face. In older patients, to accommodate for the natural bone loss in the jaw area, the filler is usually injected beneath the jawline to offset this. For younger patients, the filler can be administered directly to the jaw and chin region.

ELLANSÉ
Also a collagen stimulator, ELLANSÉ is formulated to rejuvenate the face by helping to instantly reconstruct and correct any volume loss in certain areas of the face. The longevity of ELLANSÉ is meant to provide long-lasting effects that the patient can benefit from for anywhere between 1 – 4 years. It’s meant to combat the sagging skin and bone loss that inevitably occurs with age by adding volume to the lower face and, therefore, ‘lifting’ the skin which makes the overall face appear more youthful.

What Are The Side Effects?

Side effects like swelling, itching, redness and even slight bumps at the injection site are typical for this type of augmentation, as well as for most filler-based enhancements. However, such discomfort is usually rectified over a short period of time, which typically consists of a few days. Though it’s not encouraged to apply vast amounts of pressure to the treated area, it can help to lightly apply ice to help the swelling to go down.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Typically, fillers in this area can last from anywhere between 15 – 24 months, though this can vary by brand and how much filler is administered. It is sometimes necessary to have a few top-ups following the preliminary session.
