Augmentation

The perfect pout is a trend that’s as old as time, yet has never gone out of style. Lip augmentation, otherwise known as lip filler, is a procedure that’s undertaken with the goal of defining and adding plumpness to the lips and lip area. This is typically carried out for one of two main reasons – to restore volume that’s been lost with age and thereby provide a more youthful appearance, or to add more dimension by providing fullness to the lips. It’s no secret that, as our skin ages, our body’s natural production of collagen starts to tail off. As with the rest of your face, the lips gradually begin to lose their plump appearance and lines start to appear, notably above the lips (i.e. perioral lines). This is why lip augmentation is so appealing for many.
This cosmetic procedure is non-surgical and reversible, which is what makes it one of the most popular augmentations in the cosmetic surgery industry worldwide.

WHAT FILLERS ARE USED?

Typically, fillers used for lip augmentation consist of a collagen or hyaluronic acid based formula. There are three leading filler brands for this type of procedure, and these are JUVÉDERM, Restylane and BELOTERO BALANCE.
JUVÉDERM
JUVÉDERM’s fillers are hyaluronic acid based. Hyaluronic acid is known for helping to add natural enhancement to the face due to its plumping effects which can be attributed to the fact that it’s a humectant. JUVÉDERM has a wide range of fillers, but there are two notable types that are employed for lip augmentation and these are: JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC and JUVÉDERM Ultra XC. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC is a filler with the consistency of a gel. Primarily, it’s used to treat and rectify visible perioral lines. JUVÉDERM Ultra XC, on the other hand, is ideal for those seeking to add a plumpness to their lips, especially if they’re on the thin side. As well as adding a natural-looking volume to the lips, this particular filler is also used to treat the area around the lips, such as nasolabial folds.
BELOTERO BALANCE
BELOTERO BALANCE is another filler brand that uses hyaluronic acid as its base and prides itself on being able to merge with the client’s skin tissue. This provides a more natural appearance and evens out any imperfections while gently volumizing where injected. As such, BELOTERO BALANCE is ideal for use around the lips, especially perioral lines. Because hyaluronic acid is so effective at restoring a youthful fullness, a filler such as this is also great for adding plumpness and definition to the lips.

Restylane
Restylane’s fillers are made up of a hyaluronic acid-based gel. They’re used to correct various areas of the face as well as the lips, from softening facial imperfections like marionette lines to enhancing the contours of the lips.

Restylane has a variety of fillers in their line. However, the ones that are most commonly utilized for the lips are: Restylane, Restylane-L, Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse. Restylane and Restylane-L are used to add dimension to the lips as well as reducing the visibility of lines and folds around the lip area, i.e. nasolabial folds. Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse are both used to shape and increase the size of the lips as well as treating lip lines and perioral wrinkles.
